The first national diesel engine for passenger cars was unveiled at Iran Khodro Powertrain Co. (IPCO) on Tuesday, November 17, 2009.

The unveiling ceremony was concurrent with the first day of the “Sixth International Conference on Internal Combustion Engines” and took place at the presence of the Minister of Industries and Mines, some of the Parliament representatives, Chairman of IDRO and IKCO CEO.
“60 KW of power introduces national diesel engine as one of the most powerful ones in the world the performance of which is higher than its rivals,” Najmeddin, IKCO CEO said and added, “the engine has been designed and produced through the efforts of 150 Iranian experts and 185 domestic and international manufacturers and it took 18 months.”
He referred to an average of 30% decrease in fuel consumption and 40% in emissions in comparison with gas engines with the same specifications as well as durability and less maintenance costs as the advantages of this engine.
“The average fuel consumption of the engine is 5 l/100 km and it meets the requirements for Euro V emission standards. The engine can be mounted on all of IKCO’s C and D class products,” Najmeddin said.
It is noteworthy that 20 million dollars was invested in this project and the Ministry of Petroleum supported it.
